Platt’s annual “Open House” turned out to be a standing room only affair. Over 1200 seventh and eighth graders, along with their parents, packed the gymnasium to get a first hand look at technical education. After opening remarks by Principal Gene LaPorta and Director of Sudent Support Services and Admissions Barbara Mazzonna, the multitude was divided into smaller tour groups which were led by students and faculty through the fourteen technical areas. Each shop was functioning at full throttle as students gave impressive demonstrations of their respective skills. The open house is a major reason that Platt annually gets over seven hundred applicants for the two-hundred and forty slots available in the freshmen class. |
