PRODUCTION AND TECHNICAL THEATRE
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
EXPLORATORY
AND INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL MUSIC PRODUCTION (3 credits)
All Grade 9 students go through the Exploratory Program. Students
deciding to enter the field of music and theatre production technology
are introduced to basic concepts of music generation and music
editing software. Instruction is provided in Pro Tools © audio
editing software and students demonstrate beginner skills in these
programs. Students will be exposed to the basics of editing, as
well as MIDI interfacing protocols. Students receive instruction
in recording ethics requirements and the laws that govern music
production industry. Technology-related mathematics, reading,
writing, vocabulary and science are integrated throughout the curriculum.
ADVANCED
TECHNICAL MUSIC PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES (3 credits)
In Grade 10, students demonstrate advanced-level skills in Pro
Tools © audio editing software and are exposed to studio recording
techniques. Students are then introduced to other live recording
fundamentals and techniques. Students continue to receive
instruction in recording ethics requirements and the laws that
govern music production industry. Technology-related math, reading,
writing, vocabulary and science are integrated throughout the curriculum.
BASIC
TECHNICAL THEATRE PRODUCTION (3 credits)
Grade 11 students will be instructed in the concepts of basic design
and construction of stage sets and backdrops as well as basic scenic
painting and lighting design.
ADVANCED
TECHNICAL THEATRE PRODUCTION (3 credits)
Grade 12 students will be instructed in the concepts of advanced
design and construction of stage sets and backdrops as well as
scenic painting and lighting design.
Students
successfully completing this course of study will be able to
pursue a two year music production or technical theatre degree
at state colleges and universities or go on to a four year music
or theatre production degree. Students can obtain immediate
employment in both the music production and theatre production
areas. Jobs include: recording engineer; sound reinforcement
specialist; sound production technician; or set designer: stage
manager; lighting designer; props management to name a few. Students
graduating from Music and Theatre Production Technology also
find success in the military in the communications and public
relations fields. |
