(June,
2008) Senior Matt Alexander achieved All – American
honors at the Nike Outdoor Track and Field
Nationals held in Greensboro, NC June 21-22. Matt
finished tied for 3rd in the pole-vault with a leap of
15 feet 8½ inches
for both a personal best and school record. It was
an amazing and improbable feat in that Matt had attended
graduation the night before, boarded a plane at 6am, arrived
in Greenville at 10:45am, was driven to the venue by 11:05
to warm-up, competed at Noon, and accomplished his best
jump by 1pm!
This was truly an unbelievable ending
to his high school career. For those of you who have
followed his efforts these past four years, you have witnessed
the greatest athletic performance in the school’s
history as well as one of the top in the Connecticut Technical
High School System. Matt
garnered 7 state titles, 2 state records, earned All-New
England honors in track, as well as All-State honors twice
in soccer. Matt will be attending UConn in the
fall on a partial track scholarship.
Much of this success is owed in no small part to the support
of the Windham Tech community. The teachers, coaches,
administration and support staff have all contributed on
some level. Your flexibility with Matt and I made
it possible to prepare him to compete at the National level
the way he did. I will always be grateful and want
to thank you.
