2009-2010 Club Descriptions |

Advanced Board Games (D. Carter, L. Proto,) – Interested in world domination and bored with regular board games, come to Advanced Board Games. Games include Dungeons and Dragons, Magic, MechWarrior Dark Age, Risk, Axis and Allies, HeroQuest, and others. Basic
board games are not involved, so there will not be Monopoly,
Candyland, or Chutes and Ladders. (Meet in Room B – 212)
- Archery Club (P. Smith) – Students will travel to Center Sports in Columbia to practice archery. Students may rent equipment for $1.50 or bring their own bow and arrows. Cost will be $5.00 per session. (Meet
in room A-113)
- Art Club (K. Gagnon, G. Dimock, R. Nishball) – The Art Club is an activity that provides materials, instruction and support for those students who are seeking a creative outlet. All interest and ability levels are welcome. (Meet
in B-112)
- Automotive Club (J. Quimby and T. Lariviere) – This group will explore automotive related subjects which fall outside the present curriculum. Members will work on automobiles in areas such as detailing and customization. (Meet
in Automotive)
- Badminton Club (Volunteers needed) – Students will come prepared in athletic clothing to play badminton. Games
will be played in a competitive manner. (Meet in LMC)
- Basketball Club – (B. Bisson, D. Grenier, T. Farrell - Students will be organized into teams that will compete with other teams in the club. Games are 20 minutes long, running time except for the last minute of the game. Students will also help in the score board and score sheets for stats for the season. The
Club will conclude with the playoffs and championships at the
end of the school year. (Meet in Gym).
- Board Games (P. Long, J. Wilk) – Students will play Chess, Checkers, Scrabble, Parcheesi, Trivial Pursuit, etc. Students
can also bring board games from home. (Meet in B-111)
- Book Club (J. Weston) – A time a place for students to read and share their books. We may choose a book for all of us to read, or you may bring your own. If
possible, we will go to the Book Barn in Niantic where there
are thousands of used books to choose from. (Meet in room B-104)
- Bowling Club (D. Blake and T. Covill) – Students will travel to a local bowling alley for this activity. Costs and travel arrangements will be discussed at the first meeting. (Meet
in B-118)
- Fitness Club (E. Scheff, C. Morgan, S. Hilding,) – Learn to keep fit and healthy in Fitness Club. Students will learn proper weight training techniques, use new cardio equipment and reap the benefits of yoga. (Meet
in B-120)
- Flag Football (R. Elliott, R. Mango) – Students will be divided into teams and play football. (Meet
in cafeteria)
- Green Team (N. Roberts) - Help save the environment and
join the Green Team! Students will identify projects that will promote environmental awareness and reduce. Projects will be carried out in school and the surrounding community. (Meet
in A-200)
- Golf (J. Cardin) - Get those clubs out! This is a great opportunity to perfect your golf swing. We will go to Mansfield driving range and possibly a nearby Country Club. (Meet
in Machine Tool)
- Herb and Flower Club (B. Olson, R. Motekaitis) – This club will be cultivating and learning about fresh herbs and flowers for use in our restaurant and student lunch program. We will be planting already established perennials and annuals this fall that can be used before it gets too cold. We will start seeds for some plants inside that will be planted in the spring. We will also discuss the cultivation, lore, uses, storage and breakdown of herbs and flowers as they relate to culinary and flower arranging for the table. Fresh herbs and flowers will be available for students to work with throughout the course of the year. (Meet
in Cafeteria)

Hiking Club (R. Brown, B. Wohlleben, and K. Arpin) Students
will visit local nature preserves in all four seasons. Appropriate foot-ware and clothing is a MUST. (Meet
in Cafeteria)
- Hoop Club (C. Clabby) - Students will make their own hula
hoops and perfect the art of hooping. It’s fun to make up dance routines and is a rhythmical and creative way to improve core fitness. Come join Windham Tech’s first hoop club. Check out safirehooping on YouTube. She’s
fantastic!!
- Internet Club (A. Podolski) – Students will surf the Internet for fun or to do research. (Meet
in room B-217)
- Job Skills Demo (D.Kohn) – A club for motivated sophomores who are interested in competing in the state “State USA Job Skills Demo” competition in March. We will use this time to plan, prepare and practice your five minute presentations. Hopefully, a state winner (and the resulting scholarships worth up to $5,000) will come from our club! (Meet
in B-226)
- Leadership Club (M. P. Monks) – Students will be involved in a variety of leadership/community service projects throughout the year. (Meet in Ms. Monk’s
office)
- Literary Magazine/School Newspaper Club (M. Primavera) – Students will write and organize a literary magazine for the school. (Meet
in B-113)
- Music/Guitar (G. Lutsky) – Students who can play guitar or other instrument will meet and play/jam in the Machine Tool theory room. This is not a club for beginning musicians! (Meet
in Manufacturing Technology)
- Movie Club (L. Foisey) Students will watch classic movies. (Meet
in B-122)
- Pen Pal Club (Volunteer needed) Get connected to the world
through pen pal writing.. Participants will correspond
with various people in all parts of the globe.
- Ping Pong/Table Tennis (C. Romano) – Test your skills playing one of the most popular sports in the world! All ability levels welcomed. (Meet
in the cafeteria)
- ISS/SAIL/SR non-release (D. DiCataldo) – Students will work quietly on homework and other class assignments. (Meet
in Health Tech)
- Racquetball Club (P. Vallone) – Students interested in learning about and/or playing racquetball will dress in athletic clothing and play racquetball at ECSU. (Meet
in B-204)
- Recess Club (C. Merfeld, K. Martin) – This club will provide students with opportunities to let loose, be active outdoors, and relive some of their favorite childhood memories. Activities will include (but are not limited to) kickball, tag, dodgeball, jump rope, four square, snow man/woman making, nature walks, arts and crafts, etc. Students should be prepared for outdoor activities regardless of the weather. (Meet
in B-209)
- Robotics (S. McShane, D. Gessay) – Join team 173 RAGE and participate in a collaborative effort with students from other area high schools to design and build robots. The RAGE team has been in existence since 1994 and is sponsored by United Technologies Research Center, CNC Software, Nerac, and JP Fabrication. The team typically competes in the Hartford Regional, Boston Regional and the FIRST Robotics National Championship held in Atlanta, Georgia. (Meet
in Electronics)
- Scrapbooking (S. Mias) – Students will work on their own scrapbooks. Specialty scissors, punches, etc. will be provided for use. A variety of techniques will be taught. A
supply list will be given out during the first meeting. (Meet
in Architectural Technologies)
- Soccer Club (C. Rayner) – Students will be divided into teams and play soccer. (Meet
in B-214)
- Swimming (Volunteers needed) – Dip into the pool at
ECSU for some refreshing exercise.
- Volleyball (V. Lukasik) – Students will play volleyball in the small gym. (Meet
in the Small Gym)
- Wrestling (S. Ahmadi) – Students will be taught proper
wrestling techniques and will wrestle with other club students
with similar ability levels. (Meet in B-208)
