In
a recent report, Windham Tech made
the top ten list of high schools in the state ranking fourth in
school improvement on CAPT test scores. The report was published
by ConnCAN, a private group whose mission is
to bring Connecticut together to provide every child with a great
public school. They have published various reports and studies
over the past few years. This year they have done a rating of schools
based on a comparison of the results from the 2007 and
2008 CMTs and CAPT across five categories: Performance
Gains, Most Improved, African American scores, Hispanic
scores and low-income scores.
In
addition, the Connecticut Technical High School System
(CTHSS) was recognized for “beating the state average for
improvement (5.8 percentage points compared to the state’s
4.1).” “Low-income
students at technical schools also scored higher (24.3
met the state goal) than low-income students in the state
of CT (19.3 met the state goal) for the second year in
a row.”
CTHSS
Superintendent Dr.
Abigail Hughes said about the report, "All
of our teachers and administrators are working hard to
improve student learning and it is wonderful when an outside
group recognizes the results of this work."
