Ms. Martin: What
does it mean to you to win scholar athlete of the
year?
Brittany: Scholar Athlete is an excellent accomplishment because between balancing school work and sports and maintaining an exceptional grade point average is most certainly something to be proud of! I am honored to achieved this.
Dakota: That my hard work and dedication paid off and I’m honored to be acknowledged for it.
Ms. Martin: What was your favorite memory of the season?
Brittany: My favorite memory during volleyball was against Grasso where the entire team played exceptional well. I had the best game of my four years and got recruited by college coaches.
In basketball it was such a privilege to play with my sister and cousin this year. Everything we did was memorable. Our “theme song” was Akuna Matata because of an inside joke between the three of us and my coach. Every practice was filled with non-stop laughter. On a personal mark, my most memorable game was against my good friends at Ellis Tech where I scored 21 points, a personal career high. Sorry Murdock!
Dakota: I’d have to say it’s a tie between two events. The first thing was the incident where I received my red card for accidentally blocking a goal with my hand… it was very exciting. The other was the tech tournament game against Prince Tech. We went into double overtime three times and penalty kicks. One of my teammates made his and so did I… it was a sad loss but very exciting and we played extremely hard.
Ms. Martin: What advice can you give the athletes you are leaving behind?
Brittany: To all my fellow athletes I would strongly encourage you to continue persevering through practices and games and working to make yourself, not only a better athlete, but also a team player! I’ve never been on such a good team as I have this year because of my teammates we so much fun and personable. Always bet eh best you can be. Play hard and play like a team. Remember, life is good.
Dakota: My advice would have to keep practicing and putting forth your best effort. You never know what you’ll accomplish if you try your hardest. Don’t miss practices and trust me if you do all of this, the coaches take notice. I’ve seen people on the team grow just over this past season and I see some unbelievable talent on our young team. Just keep it up guys and you’ll do great!
Ms. Martin: What do you plan to do in the fall?
Brittany: In the fall I plan on attending Eastern Connecticut State University. There, I will pursue trying out for the University’s volleyball and basketball teams and hopefully continue my athletic career.
Dakota: I will be a student at Johnson Wales University and I will most likely try out for the soccer team as a walk on but I am not 100%. Sports have been a staple in my life and I just don’t see myself not continuing them at the college level even if it’s intramural. |
