Kaynor Technical High School to Open Adult Apprenticeship Training School

December 19, 2019

December 19, 2019; Waterbury, CT – W.F. Kaynor Technical High School, located in Waterbury, CT, will open a new State of Connecticut-approved school for adult apprenticeship training this January. Related-instruction classes will be offered in the following licensed trade areas: Electrical, Barbering, Heating\Cooling, Plumbing, Sheet Metal.

Registration will take place on Jan. 6-9, and 13-15, 2020, from 5 – 7:00 p.m., at Kaynor Technical High School, 43 Tompkins St., Waterbury, CT.

The apprenticeship training program is run by the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS), which operates a total of seven training programs across the state. Both registered and non-registered apprentices can apply.

“We are looking for students who are currently working in a bona-fide apprenticeship program, or students who are looking to gauge if working in a licensed trade is something they are interested in pursuing,” said CTECS director of apprenticeship programming Pat Ciarlegio. “Working with our partners at the Department of Labor, we identified Waterbury as being an area that is underserved. As such, CTECS is very excited to offer Connecticut’s workforce this exciting opportunity.”

CTECS low-cost apprenticeship program utilizes only CT Department of Consumer Protection (CT-DCP) instructors with extensive real-life work experience in the trades. Coursework offered is aligned to industry needs and licensure requirements according to the CT Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship Training, and the CT-DCP Occupational Licensing Department.

Students who complete all licensed category coursework will graduate with the related instruction hours required for their trade area, and the knowledge and skills necessary to become licensed with the CT-DCP. Non-registered apprentices may apply the earned credit to future apprenticeship requirements.

Classes begin on Jan. 21, 2020, and run from 6 – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
