WFSB - Channel 3 Eyewitness News' "Back to School Authority" segments continue to highlight CTECS students who are already joining their local workforce at companies like Sirois Tool Co. in Berlin, CT.
Several years ago, Sirois Tool launched a highly successful paid apprenticeship program that hires current Connecticut technical high school students.
Vinal Technical High School graduate Ian Mannings credits his time in the Precision Machining program for his current success. He apprenticed at Sirois back in 2018 when he was still in high school and has worked his way up the ladder, where he now works as a manufacturing engineer!
“If you’ve got a good mechanical aptitude and you enjoy making things; if you were a kid that was growing up playing Legos every day you should really be seriously considering this,” said Sirois Tool President Alan Ortner.

A recent segment from WFSB - Channel 3 Eyewitness News "Back to School Authority" profiled Ava Tamburrino, a recent Emmett O'Brien Technical High School Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) graduate who already has a job lined up in the industry with a local company.
“There’s a huge demand,” said HVAC Department Head Mark Belade. “There’s business owners out there that see this and they are knocking down our doors to get a hold of these kids and my only response is what took you so long.”
“I think this is the best decision I’ve ever made in my life,” said Tamburrino.
Tamburrino plans to save money and eventually open her dream business. “I hope that maybe one day I can make a company for all-girl HVAC techs,” she said. “And pursue that so that more females can feel comfortable with people going in and out of their houses and pricing their equipment.”
