May 28, 2015
Norwich Technical High School was recognized on May 8, 2015 at the Connecticut State Library in Hartford, Connecticut for participating in the 2014 Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge. They were awarded a certificate which reads, “Certificate of Excellence awarded to Norwich Technical High School for Exceptional Participation in The Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge 2014.” Norwich Tech has participated in the Governor’s Reading Challenge for 12 years and this year it was one of only two high schools in the state to receive this recognition. A total of 675 students read books during the summer of 2014.
Norwich Tech Principal Nikitoula Menounos stated, “Reading is part of our school culture, whereby students read every day through silent reading, so that summer reading is simply an extension of this every day requirement. Administration and faculty alike believe that encouraging and requiring reading through the summer is essential in maintaining literacy skills.”
