PowerSchool Data Breach Notification

January 8, 2025

January 27, 2025 Update

To the best of our knowledge, the scope of the PowerSchool data breach appears to be limited at CTECS. More importantly, we believe that in the majority of cases, Social Security numbers or other highly sensitive personal information were not accessed. In the few cases where we believe sensitive information may have been accessed, impacted individuals will be contacted directly by both CTECS and PowerSchool.

As part of their response, PowerSchool is offering two years of free identity protection and credit monitoring services to all students and educators whose information was part of this incident. PowerSchool will contact those eligible for this free protection.

We take the protection of your information seriously and will continue to work closely with PowerSchool to monitor this situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at tech.inquiry@cttech.org.

January 8, 2025 Update

On January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) that unauthorized access to their PowerSource customer support platform had compromised the personal information of students and teachers from various school districts. PowerSchool is the software provider for CTECS’ student information system.

PowerSchool has assured us that they are actively investigating the incident to determine the full scope and impact of the breach. In the meantime, they have implemented additional security measures to prevent further unauthorized access. Furthermore, PowerSchool is offering credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

While we await more detailed information from PowerSchool, the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System is conducting its own review to ensure the continued security of our systems and the protection of your personal information. We understand that this situation may cause concern, and we are committed to keeping you informed as we learn more. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please contact us at tech.inquiry@cttech.org.
