A moment of appreciation for these three Oliver Wolcott Technical High School students, Tyler, Sam, and Chris, who recently sprang into action to help a community member in need.
While on a trip to their local Dairy Queen, these three students noticed a fellow patron’s car leaking antifreeze and instructed them to turn the vehicle off, where they proceeded to use the tools on hand and their industry knowledge from their respective Automotive and Plumbing trades in order to diagnosis and solve the issue.
Not only did their technical skills come in handy, but these students demonstrated their customer service skills by following up and making sure the customer arrived home safely. 👏

The Henry Abbott Technical High School Precision Machining shop has played a pivotal role in the ambitious upgrade of the McCarthy Observatory's telescope.
Initially built in 2000 to encourage science education and curiosity among students, founding observatory member Bob Lambert realized that an upgraded custom plate was needed in order to mount a brand new telescope for the McCarthy Observatory, requiring precise engineering, intricate machining and attention to detail to match the specifications of the new hardware. “No machine shop was willing to take on the project due to its complexity and size,” said Bob. “That’s when we took a long shot and turned to Abbott Tech.”
Abbott Tech Precision Machining instructors Jim Mills and Steve Bova accepted the challenging project in order to provide valuable learning experiences for the students, as well as showcasing collaboration between educational institutions and community organization.
